Slovakia
Carpathians, castles and a quiet Danube
Often overshadowed by its neighbours, Slovakia is a Central European gem: a compact medieval capital on the Danube, the jagged peaks of the High Tatras, UNESCO wooden villages and hundreds of castles. For a Cameroonian traveller it is an affordable Schengen gateway, perfect for mixing city and big nature in a week. Bratislava is easily walked, and trains link smoothly to Vienna, Budapest and the northern mountains. A safe, green country that is surprisingly cheap for Europe.

The visa, step by step
How to apply
Slovakia has no visa section in Cameroon and no other Schengen country represents it in Yaoundé. According to its embassy in Abuja (accredited to Cameroon), applicants from Cameroon apply at the Slovak Embassy in Nairobi (Kenya). Fill in the application online at ezov.mzv.sk, pick an appointment date, then attend IN PERSON (fingerprints). In Nairobi, BLS International and VFS Global centres also accept applications. Email the embassy before booking your trip.
Required documents
- Passport issued within the last 10 years, valid 3 months beyond return, 2 blank pages
- Application form filled in online, printed and signed
- Recent biometric photo (35 x 45 mm)
- Travel medical insurance (€30,000 cover)
- Hotel booking or accommodation certificate + proof of funds (€56 per person per day)
Good to know
- •The Schengen visa is valid across the whole Schengen area (29 countries).
- •Fees are non-refundable if refused.
- •Applying in Nairobi is costly: if Slovakia is only a stopover, apply to the Schengen country where you will spend the most time.
