Top 30 most powerful passports in the world (Henley ranking, July 2026)
The world's best passport opens 192 countries without a visa. The top 30 of the July 2026 Henley ranking, the ties, the surprises, and where African passports stand.
Every quarter, the Henley Passport Index ranks the world's passports by the number of destinations they can enter without a prior visa. In the video, Djo, Ebelle and Vora share out the top 30 of the July 2026 edition. Here it is in detail.
How the ranking is calculated
Henley counts destinations you can enter visa-free, with a visa on arrival, a visitor permit or an electronic travel authorisation (such as an ESTA or eTA). E-visas don't count, since you have to apply for them before you travel. As a result, many passports have the same score and share the same place.
The top 10
| Rank | Passport | Visa-free destinations |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Singapore | 192 |
| 2 (tied) | Japan, South Korea, United Arab Emirates | 188 |
| 5 | Sweden | 187 |
| 6 (tied) | Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Netherlands | 186 |
Singapore stays on top, four destinations ahead of second place. And the surprise: the United Arab Emirates move ahead of France and much of Europe.
From 11th to 30th place
| Rank | Passport | Visa-free destinations |
|---|---|---|
| 11 to 16 | Nobody: the eleven passports tied in 6th place fill these ranks | – |
| 17 (tied) | Austria, Greece, Malta, Portugal, Switzerland | 185 |
| 22 (tied) | Hungary, Poland, United Kingdom | 184 |
| 25 (tied) | Australia, Canada, Latvia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czechia | 183 |
With the eight passports tied in 25th place, our "top 30" actually includes 32 passports.
What about Africa?
No African passport makes the top 30. The best on the continent is that of the Seychelles. The Cameroonian passport, for its part, opens 47 destinations without a prior visa according to this ranking: four times fewer than Singapore.
Henley's number isn't the only one that matters
For an African traveller, e-visas change everything: you apply online, with no embassy appointment, and Henley doesn't count them. Add them in, and a Cameroonian can travel to 90 countries without going through an embassy: we showed this in the Cameroonian passport episode.
That's what Travora shows: for your passport, the list of countries that are visa-free, visa on arrival, e-visa, and those that require an embassy visit. Start with the visa guide by choosing your departure country.
The next Henley ranking is expected in mid-October 2026: this article will be updated if anything moves.
