Ivorian passport: 103 countries you can visit without going to an embassy
Kouassi, from Abidjan, thought his passport took him "nowhere". Travora counts 30 visa-free countries, 14 with visa on arrival and 59 by e-visa: 103 destinations, no embassy.
Second episode of our series on African passports. This time it's Kouassi, from Abidjan, who is sure of himself: with an Ivorian passport, "you can't go anywhere". Travora's numbers, as of 4 October 2026, say the opposite:
| Type of access | Number of countries |
|---|---|
| Visa-free | 30 |
| Visa on arrival | 14 |
| E-visa | 59 |
| Total without an embassy | 103 |
Visa-free countries
ECOWAS
Ghana, Senegal, Togo, Nigeria… ECOWAS free movement lets Ivorians enter with their passport (or their ECOWAS ID card), without a visa.
What about Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger?
These three countries left ECOWAS to form the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). But they announced as early as December 2024 that they would remain a visa-free area for all ECOWAS nationals. For an Ivorian, nothing changes: still visa-free.
Further afield
- Kenya: 60 days, with no visa or online authorisation since July 2025;
- Singapore and the Philippines;
- Barbados, in the Caribbean, visa-free for Ivorians since 2022.
Visa on arrival countries
14 countries, including the Maldives, Mauritius and Madagascar. The visa is issued at the airport: bring a return ticket, a hotel booking and proof that you can cover your expenses.
E-visa countries
The longest list: 59 countries, where you apply online from your phone. Among them: Thailand (e-visa open worldwide since January 2025), Vietnam, India… and Cameroon.
The farthest visa-free country
That's the surprise at the end of the video: Samoa, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, almost on the other side of the Earth from Abidjan. The archipelago accepts all nationalities without a visa for a tourist stay, with a return ticket and a valid passport.
What you still need
"Visa-free" doesn't mean "nothing needed". Most often:
- a passport valid for 6 months after your return date;
- a return ticket;
- your yellow fever vaccination card.
Check a specific country
Choose Côte d'Ivoire as your country of departure on Travora: the visa guide shows all three lists, and every destination has its own page (documents, length of stay, budget in CFA francs, season).
Have a Cameroonian passport? Here is the Cameroon episode: 90 countries without an embassy.
Information checked on 12 October 2026 against the official sources below. Visa rules change often: confirm again before you book.
