Marrakech, the desert, Essaouira… Morocco is a dream for many Cameroonians, and it isn't that far away. But one thing comes before the plane ticket: with a Cameroonian passport, you need a visa. Here's how to get one, how much to budget and how to prepare the trip without stress.

Do Cameroonians need a visa for Morocco?

Yes. Cameroon is not on Morocco's list of visa-exempt countries, and there is no visa on arrival at the airport. You apply for the visa before you leave, at the Moroccan consulate. Allow around two weeks for processing, sometimes more in peak season.

What about the Moroccan e-visa?

Morocco has an e-visa portal (acces-maroc.ma), but it is not open to all Cameroonians. It only applies to you if you already hold, for example:

  • a valid multiple-entry visa for the Schengen area, the United States, the United Kingdom or Canada (among others);
  • or a valid residence permit from a European Union country, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland or the UAE (among others).

The exact list of accepted visas and permits, and their minimum validity, is in the portal's official terms. If none of these apply to you, it's the consulate.

The visa application

The documents usually required for a tourist visa:

  • a passport valid for at least 6 months after your return date;
  • the completed application form and recent passport photos;
  • a return ticket (booking);
  • proof of accommodation (hotel booking or a letter of invitation from your host);
  • travel insurance;
  • proof of funds (bank statements, employment letter).

Your countdown to departure

  1. D-60: check your passport's expiry date (6 months' validity after your return).
  2. D-45: complete application and flight booked.
  3. D-35: submit your visa application at the consulate.
  4. D-21: health. Morocco does not require yellow fever vaccination to enter, but the hepatitis A vaccine is recommended.
  5. D-1: print everything (visa, tickets, hotel booking, insurance).

Flying from Douala

Royal Air Maroc connects Douala to Casablanca, then the rest of the country via connecting flights. Be careful: the airline suspended its flights to Central Africa for part of 2026, with a resumption announced for the autumn. Check which flights are actually operating on your dates before paying for anything, and compare with routes that have a stopover.

According to Travora, expect 510,000 to 720,000 FCFA return, depending on the season.

Budget on the ground

Travora's estimates for one week, excluding flights:

Travel styleBudget for 7 days
Backpacker (hostel, street food, local transport)about 300,000 FCFA
Comfort (hotel, restaurants, excursions)about 630,000 FCFA

Time zone, language, plugs

  • Time: since 20 September 2026, Morocco has been on GMT all year round. That makes it one hour behind Douala.
  • Language: Arabic and Amazigh are the official languages, and French is widely spoken, especially in cities.
  • Plugs: the same as in Cameroon (types C and E, 220 V). No adapter needed.

When to go?

In spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November). Avoid June to August if you're going to Marrakech or the desert: temperatures can top 40 °C.

What to do in Morocco?

  • Jemaa el-Fna square and the souks of Marrakech;
  • a night in the desert (Merzouga or Agafay);
  • the Majorelle Garden;
  • the ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site;
  • Essaouira and its harbour, on the Atlantic coast.

Must-tries: tagine, couscous (traditionally on Fridays), pastilla and mint tea.

Three tips to get by

  • In the souks, haggle: start at around half the asking price.
  • In a petit taxi, ask for the meter before you set off.
  • To say thank you: choukran. It always goes down well.
