From Cameroon to Istanbul: visa, flights and prices (no, your Schengen visa isn't enough)

Cameroonian passport + Schengen visa = Turkish e-visa? Wrong. The real visa, the direct flight from Douala, prices in Istanbul and the budget for a week on a shoestring.

You have a Cameroonian passport and a Schengen visa? You think the Turkish e-visa takes five minutes online? Wrong. Here is the real visa, the flight, prices in Istanbul… and what a week really costs.

Turkish e-visa with a Schengen visa: not for Cameroonians

Turkey does offer a conditional e-visa to travellers holding a valid Schengen, US or UK visa. But this option is not open to the Cameroonian passport. On the official Turkish e-visa website, Cameroon has no e-visa option at all, even with a Schengen visa.

The real visa: a sticker visa, in Yaoundé

  • You need a sticker visa (stuck in your passport), submitted in person in Yaoundé, at Voya Visa, the approved centre.
  • What about Douala? The only application centre is in Yaoundé: don't count on applying at the consulate in Douala.
  • Expect $60 in service fees (plus VAT) at the centre, on top of the visa fees.
  • Apply at least a month before you leave.

The flight: direct from Douala

Good news: Turkish Airlines connects Douala to Istanbul in about 7 hours, non-stop (depending on the day, the plane may stop in Yaoundé). Return ticket: about 430,000 to 680,000 FCFA according to the video; the lowest prices are often flights with a stopover, and a direct return often costs more than 680,000 FCFA.

Istanbul, two continents

Istanbul straddles two continents: Europe on one side of the Bosphorus, Asia on the other.

On the groundPrice
Ferry between Europe and Asia (Kadıköy)about 770 FCFA
A tram rideabout 550 FCFA
Hagia Sophia (foreign visitor)€25
Topkapı Palaceabout 32,000 FCFA
Grand Bazaar (about 3,600 to 4,000 shops)free

And its airport? The second busiest in Europe, with more than 84 million passengers in 2025.

The budget for a week

On a shoestring (flight, visa, hostel, meals, transport): about 700,000 to 900,000 FCFA for a week, with a cheap flight. With a direct flight, expect more like up to 1 million FCFA. Less than you'd think… but don't forget the 3 million you need to show in your account for the visa.

Plan your trip

The documents and steps for the Turkish visa are on Travora's Turkey guide. Have a Schengen visa? It won't open Turkey for you, but it can open the Moroccan e-visa: we explain it in our article Morocco visa for Cameroonians.
