2 weeks in Morocco from Dakar: budget or luxury? (Senegalese passport)

You have a Senegalese passport and two weeks to spare? Morocco is 3 h 30 from Dakar, visa-free. Ebelle goes on a shoestring (hostels, trains, harira from street stalls), Vora goes luxury (palace, desert, private driver). Same country, same flight… and a gap of one to nine at the end.

Do Senegalese passport holders need a visa for Morocco?

No. The Senegalese passport enters Morocco visa-free for up to 90 days, and no vaccination is required.

During AFCON 2025, Morocco required Senegalese travellers to get an electronic travel authorisation (AEVM), from 25 September 2025 to 25 January 2026. It has been lifted: since 27 April 2026, the AEVM only applies to four countries (Congo, Ecuador, Ghana and Guinea).

The Dakar–Casablanca flight

Royal Air Maroc and Air Sénégal fly Dakar to Casablanca non-stop, in about 3 h 20 to 3 h 30. Expect about 400,000 FCFA return in economy (fares checked on 18 October 2026; promotions sometimes go lower). It's the only item where Ebelle and Vora pay exactly the same.

More good news: since 20 September 2026, Morocco has gone back permanently to GMT. Zero time difference with Dakar: no jet lag, no missed appointments.

Vora spends nine times more… and on accommodation alone, more than thirty times Ebelle's hostel.

Where to stay: hostel or La Mamounia?

• Ebelle: hostel dorms in Marrakech, Fez or Tangier, about 90,000 FCFA for 13 nights.
• Vora: La Mamounia, Marrakech's legendary palace hotel, from about €425 a night, then a night in a luxury desert camp (Agafay or Merzouga). Total: about 3 million.

Palace prices vary a lot by season: book early for the holidays and spring.

Al Boraq, Africa's first high-speed train

To get to Tangier, both take Al Boraq, the continent's first high-speed line, opened in November 2018 between Tangier and Casablanca. In 2nd class, tickets start at around 100 dirhams (about 6,000 FCFA) when booked in advance; 1st class costs much more.

For the rest of the trip, Ebelle gets around by regular train and shared taxis (≈ 60,000 F in total), Vora with a private driver for ten days (≈ 1.3 million including the high-speed train in 1st class).

What to see in Marrakech?

The Majorelle Garden, the Ben Youssef Madrasa, Jemaa el-Fna square at sunset: count about 30,000 FCFA in entrance fees for the whole trip on a budget. Vora adds a palace hammam, a night in the desert and excursions: 400,000 F.

And in the end? They watched the same sunset in Marrakech.

How to travel "luxury" without paying 6 million

As a couple, you share the room: accommodation and the driver, which make up more than 4 million of Vora's budget, are split in two. Luxury then costs far less per person. And nothing stops you from mixing: hostels most of the time, a single night in the desert.
