Senegalese passport: 103 countries you can visit without going to an embassy
Awa, from Dakar, swore her passport took her "nowhere". Travora counts 30 visa-free countries, 13 with visa on arrival and 60 by e-visa: 103 destinations, no embassy.
Fourth episode of our series on African passports. Djo has already lost this bet three times (Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Togo). This time it's Awa, from Dakar, who is sure of herself: with a Senegalese passport, "you can't go anywhere". Travora's numbers, as of 4 October 2026, prove her wrong:
| Type of access | Number of countries |
|---|---|
| Visa-free | 30 |
| Visa on arrival | 13 |
| E-visa | 60 |
| Total without an embassy | 103 |
Visa-free countries
ECOWAS, right next door
You'd need a visa even for The Gambia, which sits inside Senegal? Wrong. The Gambia, Guinea, Ghana, Nigeria… ECOWAS free movement lets Senegalese citizens enter without a visa, for a stay of up to 90 days.
What about Mali?
Mali left ECOWAS in January 2025, along with Burkina Faso and Niger, to form the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). But the AES remains a visa-free area for ECOWAS nationals. For a Senegalese traveller, nothing changes: still visa-free.
Further afield
- Kenya: up to 60 days, with no visa or online authorisation. Note that since 5 October 2026, you must buy Kenyan health insurance online (up to $44) before boarding;
- Singapore and the Philippines (30 days);
- Samoa, in the middle of the Pacific: a free visitor permit is issued on arrival, whatever your nationality.
Visa on arrival countries
13 countries issue the visa directly at the airport, including the Maldives, Mauritius and Madagascar. Bring a return ticket, a hotel booking and proof that you can cover your expenses.
E-visa countries
The longest list: 60 countries, where you apply online from your phone. Among them: Thailand (e-visa open worldwide since January 2025), Vietnam, India… and Cameroon.
The Caribbean island, visa-free
That's the surprise at the end of the video: Barbados. White sand, turquoise water… and no visa for a Senegalese passport, according to Barbados' official visa list.
What you still need
"Visa-free" doesn't mean "nothing needed". Most often:
- a passport valid for 6 months after your return date;
- a return ticket;
- your yellow fever vaccination card.
Check a specific country
Choose Senegal as your country of departure on Travora: the visa guide shows all three lists, and every destination has its own page (documents, length of stay, budget in CFA francs, season).
The other episodes: the Cameroonian passport, the Ivorian passport and the Togolese passport. And to see where Senegal ranks in West Africa: the ECOWAS Passport Cup.
Information checked on 19 October 2026 against the official sources below. Visa rules change often: confirm again before you book.
